Etymology
Derived directly from Latin plus ("more"), related to plenus ("full"). The word retained its original mathematical/additional sense in English (first recorded 14th century) while expanding to figurative meanings like "advantage" (19th century). Unlike many Latin borrowings, it never developed complex morphological divisions in English usage.
